Is it worth re-writing the title...the way you have worded it people need to give a negative response to agree with your sentiment, and vis-versa...
Done
See, this is what I hoped (from peoples comments, the poll is more evenly balanced...) but just wondered how elitist this forum is (not that elitism's a bad thing).
To me driving is fun in so many vehicles for so many reasons but it appears to get lost in a wealth of "fastest, best handling, most powerful".
I guess I just wanted to see whether it's the actual act of driving that is the fun bit to people...getting a corner right in an ill-handling nail of a car is as much fun as getting it right in well balanced one IMO...sometimes more so...
(this isn't a pop at the other threads and tbh, I know this ground has been covered before.)

I DO care what the car has - as I shall then modify my driving style to take advantage of what the car has to offer.
Having said this I've enjoyed cars with all three transmissions.
Usually for different reasons. Got nothing against FWD/4WD/RWD...
All of what you've written I agree with, and sums up my POV better than I managed.Having said this I've enjoyed cars with all three transmissions.

You throw a set of keys at me and I dont give a toss what wheels are driven. I'll enjoy driving it.
I have a preference to buy RWD for fun, but even then I think seriously about cars like the Honda integra / Focus RS as cars I would want for fun. So it's not the driven wheels but the engineering around it I give a toss about.

Dunno tbh. I would say not but I've only actually owned one FWD car (vs 2 AWD, 2 4x4s and 8 RWD). Of the hire-cars I've driven the wheezy asthmatic nature of the engine has ben the over-riding issue rather than FWD.
The only car I've actually hated driving is SWMBO's S-Max, mainly because of the torque-steer.

I used to care, always swore I would never have a FWD but i've grown up now. I would agree that its better to drive a sorted FWD than a dog of a RWD, however, given the choice of a good FWD or RWD chassis, I would pick the RWD every time. I've never had the opportunity to drive a performance 4WD vehicle so cant comment on that, but Landrover 4WD in the right enviroment is hard to beat.
To me the best cars are front engine rear wheel drive, the best of thes have a handling balance which I like the best.
That said the best of something other than the above will be better than the worst of the above.
For example two of the best cars I have ever driven, in terms of the total package offered by the car, i.e. the balance of hanndling, power, etc are the 1.7 Puma and Honda Accord Type R.
For the vast majority of the motoring public FWD offers the best compromise, safe handling, but conversingly can be made to handle as well, but has better packaging and is cheaper to produce.
