Evening,

I just got through my renewal for my AA membership, and they want £109 for the honour of another years cover. Just curious what everyone pays and who they are with, recommendations etc, or is that a good quote?

Cheers

Come with the bank account. Includes two lots of mobile insurance, worldwide travel and other stuff for less than your quote.

Look at your bank's premium accounts.

I don't. When the Mondeo fails I'm going to take an angle grinder to the VINs and torch the bd.

Rawwr - Mildly impractical if you're standed on the motorway but i like your thinking otherwise smile

AA - £45 for personal, so any vehicle. Never had to call them, so subsidising you out there - yes you TVR/MGB/<insert unreliable piece of junk here>

Mine comes with my Classic Insurance for my MGB GT, not sure exactly how much it is, but its a small amount on top of a few hundred pounds, maybe £25 or £30. However much it is, I've definitely got my moneys worth. wink

With AA have you tried phoning them and saying they want too much so you WONT be renewing

You might be amazed

but I do have staff membership anyway (thank God) and free Green Flag with bank account

Double cover for my unreliable MG Midget (not unreliable. I break it, it doesn't do it to me)

Never tried the Green Flag option out, not sure if I ever will.

AA treats me just fine, ta

£109 ain't no thing. The AA charged me a very reasonable £191 for one year, last year! (September 2009.) That's for "HOMESTART RELAY STAY-MOBILE", according to the card they sent me. I don't know quite what all of that gives me, but it'd better be pretty fking awesome.

This has cropped up before I think and, as with mobile phones, people have been able to get a better deal by getting angry. So that would be one suggestion. Please post back, whatever you try, as this is of personal interest to me, at least wink

(Rant ON... I've let this slide this time, because I didn't notice how much I'd been screwed until I was going through my piled-up paperwork mid-February. That's my own stupid fault, if I leave it 4 months before noticing... but needless to say, if the charge in September 2010 is anything even remotely like -- i.e., 3 figures or more -- I'll be kicking off! Stupid thing is I haven't called them since March 2006. I don't even know why I'm still a member. It was just about worth it when I had my Renault Clio, and it was <£80/yr. But now I have a newer car that was made in Germany, and it's nearly £200/yr, there's seriously no point. Assholes! Thanks for listening.)

£65 a year extra for everything inc. homestart and relay via my Admiral breakdown policy. Had to use it once when my water pump failed in my auto corsa - they were out within 20 minutes of me making the call - with a flatbed - ready to take the car.

None of this rubbish "send a scout vehicle out to waste time and fix the unfixable at the side of the road fault" - very very impressed.

Nothing.

There's a small tool kit in the boot, most of the time.

If I can't fix it, I'm walking!

£7 a month rolling for AA breakdown and recovery. Covering me in any car. If you've got multiple cars, nothing touches it that I could find.

Agreed. If you have no or little claim history I've found it very easy to get the AA renewal price down to about 60% of what they originally said they were charging me, with a simple 5 minute phone call.

The other option is to use cashback sites and switch yearly between the AA and RAC, making use of their first-year offers.
