License category D1
Discussion
Tomorrow morning I'm due to go and pick up a 14-seater minibus (Transit) from Sheffield, for my parents.
It's a disability-adapted vehicle with a wheelchair lift in the back.
However, I've just realised that Im not legally entitled to drive it. I passed after '97 so only have categories B and B1 on my license, and I think the minibus needs category D1.
How do I add that category to my license? Do I need to pass some sort of test? If so, what can I expect? Is it costly?

This page from direct.gov should explain the times and conditions that you are legally allowed to drive a minibus, even if you dont' have a D1.

Basically, if you are driving it voluntarily, not for hire or reward, and have no paying customers, are over 21 and have held your car license for 2 years you should be fine
