Just flopped through my letterbox and after having a quick flick through it looks like a great one. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the inception of the McLaren F1, there is also an amazing photograph on pages 74 and 75.

I worry that Evo sometimes sells itself short o content. Some of thes earticles are copies of earlier pieces. Not one of their better issues TBH.

When I saw the picture on the front of the subcriber's copy, I thought "brilliant".

I ran out of time over the weekend to read it, so I've brought it to work with me; I've never done that before hehe

Has EVO got good again?

I stopped reading about 18 months ago when it just became the same tired dross, month in, month out.

I continue to enjoy it each month, having subcribed for about 4 yrs now, though some (like yourself) did think it changed significantly.

Much as the F1 impresses me as an engineering exercise, I think the volume of print on it and the McClaren organisation OTT. I felt like I was reading a sales brochure rather than a motoring mag.

I like Evo and think it has been good lately, but this month's issue is disappointing.

The McLaren F1 is obviously an amazing car, but almost the whole magazine is taken up with articles about it. It's just not that interesting (in my opinion).

Have to agree with that as well. Nothing against the F1 but there weren't really any other articles in this month.
Only other things I could remember was the brief NSX vs Evora comparison at the track and the M3 Competition version brief review.

Never mind, hopefully more variety next time......

it was after the 20page 'shell fuels' special that I decided EVO had turned a wrong 'un

Agreed. I thought the whole thing was about kissing ass at McLaren.

The F1 is an icon without a doubt, but its simply a toy of the hyper rich. In fact, dare I say it, its a status symbol of the rich. "unless you can afford to run an F1, you're not really that rich, even if you can afford a nice Ferrari" or whatever. "significantly richer than yow" springs to mind.

Never seen one on the road. So to me, its close to being an irrelevant and pointless car.

We shall agree to disagree then, but I quite like the many different articles all on the F1 - a piece on Ron, a piece on Murray, a piece on the art, a piece on the owner's event etc. I'm particularly enjoying this one!

I was close to doing the same as you around the same time as I was sick to death of them regurgitating adjectives to big up the latest unobtainable hypercar they had tried to powerside around a welsh valley.

There are now some new contributors and management that now bless the magazine with some genuinely facinating stories of products and driving experiences - last month's trip to south america in the new Merc managed to turn a car that I have no interest in, into a really interesting story.

Whilst I appreciate that the McLaren article might not be immediately away from the "unobtainable hypercar" that I critisise above, it is a truly excellent selection of pieces, especially Gordon Murrays analysis of the detail of the cars design ... I chuckled when he describes THAT bracket as being like "something you'd find on a Ferrari".

Surely a better idea would be a series of Evo Icon "bookazines" though? If the F1 doesn't float your boat then you're left with very little content.

I really like this edition as well, I am a bit of an F1 fanboy so I could read about the McLaren F1 all day long and not get bored, greatest car ever made IMO.

I shall admit that I've only read the F1 stuff so far, and looking forward to a proper reading at lunch time - however, surely there's still "driven", the columns, and some road tests, as well as fleet cars and the news pieces?
