Hi,

I have been re-building a fire damaged 2002 mini cooper S which was not that badly gone, in fact the damage only melted a few things under the bonnet and all the repair parts cost under £1000. Regardless of the damage it was deemed a CAT C so is open to a VIC which is fine but I may have taken it too far now with the modifications.

While I had the car stripped I decided to perform a 100mm roof chop but now I really don't know where I stand or what I need to do to put the car back on the road. The bodywork is all structural and is also fitted with a full welded roll cage for rigidity and for track work.

Now I have clearly gone into the territory of modified here but I really need some advice. I have pulled all the air bags out, dash, electrics, well almost everything and I intended to put a custom ECU in no air bags and keep it track orientated but road legal.

I presume I need to send the car to and IVA now? what is the process here?

Any advice would be appreciated, I want to do things correctly

Cheers

SVA finnished last year(ish) ago, IVA is the new, more expensive, but very similar version.

The VIC is looking to establish the vehicles provenance and nothing else. If theyre happy that its the car its supposed to be, then youll get a V5C.

That's how I saw it as well, was originally registered and so they will just be checking chassis and engine ID's, for all they know it could have had the roof chop before it's accident.

Cheers,

I think as far as the VIC check goes I will be fine there as I will have the correct body with the correct engine.

Am I supposed to inform vosa of any modifications such as the roof chop?

I am probably about 6 months off finishing the build yet any way but I want to ensure I know what to do when I get there.

Id avoid telling anyone anything. The IVA is such a dogs dinner that even the people enforcing it cant give you a straight answer on many occasions.
