Evening all!

If I was to book a ferry (specifically Isle of Wight rip off Red Funnel) for a vehicle of up to 6m in length but the vehicle turned out to have grown to 6.4m what would happen?

Options:

A - Nobody would notice
B - They charge me extra
C - They don't let me on the ferry
D - They make me swim
E - Police are called
F - The ferry sinks
G - They push the vehicle in the Solent

Vehicle in question is a Tranny Minibus 17 seater

Cheers!
Wight Link want £153 for a return crossing!

Reverse it into a wall at a moderate speed.

You may become the most hated man in the area. My parents had their return ferry from Ireland cancelled because they couldn't shut the door due to someone not declaring a trailor.

Why it wasn't picked up before they let him on I don't know!

Speaking as a chap who lives on the Isle of Wight, i'd be surprised if they noticed.
If the worst did happen, they would just charge you the extra between the two tickets.

Edit..what sort of trip are you doing, day return? As there are a few short cuts for cheaper fares wink

Day return next Saturday 29 - busy day as B/H weekend.

Any short cuts would be much appreciated!

If its busy, they will care even less about an extra half a metre. The terminals are under-staffed and they would rather keep the flow going.
If possible...try and get someone from the Island to book it, and send you the tickets, we get a large discount, sometimes up to half price, depending on the day, times etc. This works with both Red Funnel and Wightlink.
Normal car day return for us over here is about £35. Book from 'that' side, it'll be about £60 wink

Im pretty sure the tickets don't stipulate which way you have to travel first smile

Think I might just book under 6m and see what happens? Surely the worst that can happen is they ask me to pay extra?!

I have a mate on the IOW so will see if he can help with the tickets!

How can they get away with charging more than a channel ferry for a much much shorter crossing? I know they must be quiet in the winter but at prices I have been quoted they must make huge amounts?!Surely this hurts tourism on the IOW?!

Unless it's fully booked in the over 6m section or overally and your extra length puts them over health and safety limit, which means they wouldn't let you on

I would be surprised if anyone noticed/cared on a bank holiday weekend.
Your mate should be able to help, just get him to pop down to the terminal if possible, book the required day return, then pop the tickets in the post to you.
Prices are terrible, im pretty sure its (infamously) the most expensive stretch of water, per mile to cross in the world.

Have you ever been on these ferries?
No sections etc...first come, first served. If its full, and you turn up last, tough. Even if you have a booking.
