Long story short my 350z was hit by (I think) a lorry on Friday, no idea on full details, nobody stopped, no witnesses, no evidence etc so it's going as a fault claim anyway. As a result it needs a new passenger door, sill, rear wing and rear bumper and a wheel refurbed.

Only last week I was considering getting it resprayed another colour anyway due to other London car park dinks/idiots with doors. Seeing as it's going to need to be done when it goes in next week it makes sense to get the colour changed at the same time... will the insurance company agree to this seeing as it needs doing anyway?? Anybody done this before or is it just asking for hassle?

I'm already screwing about it but wondering if i can find a way to benefit from it at the same time... silver linings and all that!!

As usual people are going to ask for pics so here you go frown

So you decided you wanted to change the colour but had a mate smack his 'lorry' into it so 'it needed doing' and insurance will pay for it?

This isn't my view, but a devils advocat view of what insco may be thinking. The point of insurance is to get you into the position you were in before the claim, so I think asking for this may sound dodgy.

I already realised that - it is PH after all biggrin

But not the case, I could really do without the hassle/cost at the moment as I'm moving house on the weekend and this is just another bit of grief. I know enough lorry drivers/van drivers and such that I would have claimed against their companies insurance NOT mine if that had been the way it was wink I also wouldn't be stupid enough to start a thread about colour changes in Jap chat then go and do this a few days later, a keying all over and claiming vandalism would have been a lot less of a claim if I'd just wanted a respray!!!

My excess is just short of a grand and with replacement rear tires (1 slow punture, 1 damaged) it's costing me nigh on £1,400 anyway... not worth the hassle/loss of no claims etc vs paying for the respray myself... just trying to put a positive on a st situation!!

Any sensible feedback anyone smile

yes I appreciate it may look dodgy but fk it it's not so why not, I assumed I'll have to pay the extra cost for the side of the car that doesn't need respraying under the claim anyway...

As said above the insurance company is only required to return the car to the state it was before the accident. that being said they might not even give you a full respray, but just match the bodywork... you might find you'll still have some of the other dinks which wasn't caused by the accident!

I'm in a similar position - I got rear-ended about a month ago. At first I was worried that the insurance would write the car off (1990 Alfa Spider S4). Luckily they gave the go-ahead to repair it, part of which is to respray the back half of the car after straightening it out.

The front of the car had loads (and I mean loads) of stone chips, so I asked the garage to quote me for a total respray. It's costing me €750 to have the rest of the car done at the same time. I will get 2 invoices - one for the insurance, and one for me.

I'm keeping the same colour.

I'm going to pay the extra to get the others sorted out at the same time, why have it off the road twice, I'm also willing to pay the extra for a full respray - I'm not trying it on with them and won't for fear of getting shafted, I just wondered if anyone had ever had a similar situation and, if paying for the additional work (dinks/respray) at the same time this would be acceptable... I have already advised the insurance company that there were a couple of minor dinks on the other side prior to this.

Thanks for the feedback!!

Useful - guess the best route will be to ask the garage to go along a similar line.
