Buying an older car with LPG conversion

What are the things to look out for when considering buying a car that has been converted to run on LPG? You do see the odd old barge with such a conversion, which on the face of it would appear to offer the best of both worlds - luxury waftage with the fuel cost of a diseasel - but what would be the downsides to owning such a car? What do you look for to ensure it was a proper and professional conversion?
