I have owned both high mileage cars and low mileage cars, (older vehicles – i.e 10 years +) and often find the lower mileage cars to be more tired due to the fact that many suspension parts, belts, bushes etc are perished due to age and having never been replaced because the mileage is ‘low’ and also lack of use is never good for motors.

As with the higher mileage stuff I find it to be more mechanical sound, as first of all it has been used more often and secondly parts are replaced as they wear out due to its daily use.

Obviously this isn't really applicable new stuff like 2 year old 320d with 130k on it!! More relevant to stuff like 205 GTI's, Golf GTI's, one with 20k thats sat most its life or a healthily used one with 100k.

Let me know of your thoughts and experiences.

51k/16 months in a vauxhall insignia- no major problems.

4k/12 months in a fiat grande punto- no major problems.

I do think that cars do benefit from being used on a regular basis.

I believe this is true too.

I've had low mileage cars in need of many replacement parts but have a 9 year old Audi in the fleet at the moment that has done 25k more miles than the 41 year old MG I also have.

The Audi (touch wood) is spot on, tight as a drum with 105k on the clock.

Most mechanical parts on the MG have worn out and been replaced several times in 80k miles.
