I was going through my new insurance certificate checking the cover was correct and having a browse.
Now I know that I'm not covered on the Nurburgring (I asked on the phone) but I couldn't find the smallprint that specifically excluded it..... until I noticed this bit.

Limitations as to use:

"Use on any motorsport circuit"

Now as it doesn't specify during events or trackdays so I understand from this that you aren't covered to be on any motorsport circuit at any time, which obviously means no Nurburgring even when it is just a road.

This bit definately wasn't on my policy last year, so just a quick warning for people planning a trip to the 'ring assuming that they are covered on what is a German public road to check your policy.

Most people planning a trip probably know and have alternative cover but thought I'd just raise the point.

I thought it was well-known that most British insurers didn't cover the 'Ring. Good reminder though.

Will that not just be classed as a circuit during official race times though?

(I am sure they have never heard of Mad Sunday smile)

My sisters policy expressly forbid the Nurburgring itself. She questioned me asking what the hell it was and why she couldn't drive on it.

And make sure that if you're going to Le Mans, you don't drive any of the circuit of Friday morning

Yeah and you telling me an insurance company wouldn't use that kind of clause to wriggle out of a claim

This is something that they should clarify, it's all very dodgy. Seems like another wishy-washy bit of small print that they can use when they feel like it to avoid paying out.

Just checked my policy and as well as excepting motor racing circuits, it also excepts derestricted roads redface

Having just spent 10 minutes on hold with them they have decided that they do in fact cover the German Autobahn network yes I would guess the 'ring is a nono though

Indeed, at face value the clause the OP details would imply one could not use the specified vehicle within a motorsport venue. It doesn't specify use only meaning competitive or on track.
Of course officials of events will be covered by other insurances but spectators and those accompanying competitors, who knows?

See I was expecting to see something like that, not just a arbitrary circuit clause, I may have to ring them to clarify.

I wonder if they would try and invoke that clause if you where at a track and had a claimable incident on the "public" rather than track side? Or had damage while parked on one of the campsites inside the Le-Mans circuit.
