BMW e61 on Runflats - Ok to switch to non-runflats?
Discussion
Ok so there are a good few posts about this topic but nothing specifically for this model, so knowing the importance of tyre choice I'm going to ask the question in case anyone out there has done this.
I have a BMW 353d e61 (tourer) 2005. it has runflats all round and need to replace both rears which are in a bad way. currently it has: Goodyear Eagle NCT 5, apparently these were replaced by the F1 GST 3, which may now have been replaced.
The runflats are about £220 each against £180 for standards.
I have read on this forum that the ride can be improved and i'm aware of the somewhat limiting advantages of about 50 mils on the flats, where as i'd rather get a space saver and currently have a tin of holts anyhow..
The dudes at the tyre shop were banging on about how the suspension is setup for runflats, so my question is...
Can I swap for runflats without messing up the dynamics of this car, i.e. handling braking etc and might i get a better ride (smoother, more feeling) in the price? Also if it is OK, is it a problem to have standards only on the rear?
Thanks alot
Steve

I can tell you that the NCT5 was not replaced by the F1 GSD3; they're entirely different types of tyre. The NCT5 says Eco on the side
If you do switch to normal tyres, and I plan to when I've worn out the long-lasting NCT5s on mine, then make sure you have some back-up in the event of a flat. BMW sell a space-saver kit for the spare wheel well. Note that a full size spare won't fit properly....
