Now this is something that I have wondered for a long time. When I talk to people everyone seems to be paying less for insurance than me!

I am 24 with 5 years (Nearly 6) protect NCB living in a very good postcode and still car quotes are ridiculous! I do have 3 points (CU30 for slightly worn tyre, I do mean slightly, from 2007) Should that make such a massive difference?

I am looking at getting quotes on a 350z and where people are able to get under £900 F/C when they are younger with less NCB I am looking down the barrel of £1.8k for insurance!

So how do people do it?!

Regards

try sticking a parent on as a named driver. sometimes it will bring down the cost.

Who are you quoting with?

Are you sure it is a "nice" postcode?

Have you told them to come back with a better price?

And finally, do the people with cheaper quotes have anything that you dont? Mother/sister/father on policy, waived legal cover, massive excess...

By changing their tyres before they're bald? It looks to the insurer like you'll neglect a crucial element of the car which'll result in a crash.

Does putting a family member on the policy help? Even though they live at a different address?

I am pretty sure it is a good post code. Car is parked in a private gated area etc

go to admiral.

Put two old adult drivers on (parents probs) that haven't crashed it will make a HUGE difference.

I added my gf as a named to mine, who had zero NCB and my quote went down significantly.

Whats the start of your postcode and we can see how nice it is.

You mean that, for example, putting my folks as 3rd & 4th drivers would bring the overall cost down?

Check your postcode here - http://www.motorcarinsuranceuk.co.uk/post-code-rat... might not be as good as you think?

My mum and dad don't even know they're on mine as added drivers, but it saved me £££

According to that link I am in an 'A' rated area.

Can you add family members that do not live at your address? Surely the insurance companies are aware that they may only drive the car once or twice a year?

I imagine it shows that you arent an "angry loner" and have family who you care about enough to let them drive your car.

It can do, before my mother got points she saved me £150 on my CRX, after she would have added £200 to my MR2, (and £450 to my scooby).

On my MR2 the OH was a saving of £50, on the scooby she costs £248, it can depend on the car and the driver so it is ok to ask them to quote you lots of different times to get the best price.

There is a website to check insurance risk by postcode in the uk, I am however far to lazy to google it for you.

ETA Beaten to it.

I did have my father on my policy for the first few years and it did bring the cost down. I just assumed this was only helpful until you had built up some NCB then the effect would be negligible.

Time to try another quote!

Leaving my ex-wife on my insurance saved me £200 a year. A quote with my parents on was dearer, although that could be because they're over 60.

Your quotes should drop when you hit 25, and will definately drop when you no longer have to declare your points- my policy went up by a quarter when I got 3 for speeding.

Yes, I had my mum on mine for a while (until last year in fact) and it made a huge difference. Once my wife hit 25, I put her on instead. It seems that a woman over 25 makes a big difference.
