My wife is looking at replacing her car with a 996 C4S. Initially, we were looking for a coupe, but but we have seen a couple of cabriolets that look very nice indeed. Whilst most people would probably hate a bloke driving Porsche cabriolet, what's the opinion about about girls driving them?

My take is that I don't think people would hate a girl in a 911 convertible anywhere near as much as if a bloke was driving them. In fact, I think most people would think it's quite cool.

Before anyone wades in, she doesn't give a **** about whether she "looks good" in it or not, she is more concerned about people called her a wker (or whatever the female version is) for having it / cutting her up / generally being obstructive.

Never had a problem with abuse in my Boxster, hardly read of it either - certainly not enough that when I do I think the fact it's a Porsche was a contributing factor.

Out of curiosity have you considered a 987 S? Newer car which, IMO looks better and is a much nicer place to be inside.

Anyone in an expensive convertible will overhear some hateful comments.

That's the way it is.

Thankfully not so much. The trick is to understand that one owns a wonderful, wonderful car and is having a wonderful life and they are s having a st, bile-filled experience and are in a state of constant disappointment that their life has turned out so crap.

Great feeling, eh?

[yoof] Is she hot? Obvious question, I know. But a munter in a convertible is a strange and odd looking combination. However, there's nothing better than seeing a hot chick in a cool car. [/yoof]

I haven't found a 987 4S in budget so far, unfortunately (I agree, it is a much nicer car), as top whack of the budget is about £33k. If she goes for the Pork, she is looking for a 4S & cannot be persuaded to go for a 2S (she got caught out in the snow round Basingstoke in January & got a little un-nerved with the BMW twitching all over the place). She's decided that her next car has to a 4WD....

Neither of us ever experienced any negative comments in my old Box S. Regarding whether she's hot or not, I certainly think she is!!!

I think paddyhasneeds was referring to a 987 boxter s, not a 911 as another option. I'd have to say go for the c4s even if it is the older car, looks much nicer than a boxter in my opinion although i do agree that the interior is far superior in the boxter. I would think a female in the 911 would look rather cool.

Doh! I read it as 997!!!! Unfortunately, it can't be a Box. We need the rear seats for little 'un.

A chap driving a 911 cab will always get grief from other motorists. Sadly it's to be expected in this wonderful nation of ours and I got plenty during Boxster ownership. But I would say a woman in the same car will largely attract a positive reaction from male drivers. It's the jealous female motorists I'd be worried about scratchchin
