Having to travel regularly from Luton to the Midlands I have a few questions.

Do the average speed cameras work?
I see countless folk going well over 50 as I'm locked into cruise control with the added bonus of being tailgated.

In recent weeks I have also seen ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS as well as the standard Traffic Officers.
Are these a new breed with extra powers.

Not that I want to speed, but they don't seem to be doing any actual work up to junction 14.

What vehicles were they driving and where did it say "enforcement officer" (on the vehicle, on hi-viz jacket, etc. ?)

It was written on the rear bumper, as for vehicles I'm not too sure but I'd say a Discovery, 'traffic officer' wasn't written anywhere.
......
Hey Munter, I should have titled it M1 gggrrrr or M1 phwoar to save confusion.

50mph on yourr speedo will be nearer 46mph...

Get a gps speed reading (phone/snooper/satnav) and do a true 50mph... Wont save any time, but it'll get you out of lane 1, and should reduce the number of tailgaters...

I do the smae trip from M25 to J25 on M1 once a week and stick 50 and have people going past like I was parked

Maybe the cameras dont work, I cant risk it, no licence no job etc

as for lots of Motorway wombles and real plod yes there does seem an increase of both just recently

Last time I was on the M1 ( around Nottingham) the cameras all had "Camera Not in Use" signs attached to them - I seemed to be the only person who could read that day.

There's probably not enough money in the public coffers to switch them on. biggrin

Personally I'd do an indicated 55 in a 50 as I know that's a true 51-52 in my car but unless there is a big sign saying the cameras don't work, I wouldn't be risking anything quicker.

Assuming the car behind isn't going over that massive kerb, that's a lovely four wheel drift he's in :-)

The enforcement officers are ANPR cars checking for tax, insurance, etc. Judging by the amount I have seen over the past few days I assume they are having a crack down in that area.

Not sure about the cameras, personally I put the cruise on at a gps verified 54mph, which is nearer 60 on the speedo. I am quicker than most people but have never been fined.
