Well my friend is seriously going to pay £2500 to insure a Corsa, Another is going to pay £2000 to insure a Saxo.
I've never known anyone, not even a first time driver pay this much?

Has something changed dramatically so £2000 is the cheapest, or are they just thick and getting mugged off?

Post code will be a factor, as ever. But seems pretty standard, to me - 17 is so much more expensive than even 18.

I know it's not cheap but, £2000+ can't be 'realistic' surely?

They're typical 17 year old cars. The profile will be ridiculous. They'd probably insure a small-engined Focus or something for less.

It wasn't feasible for me to drive at 17. I imagine the same is the case for a lot of people. Once they've added parents and stuff, there's not a lot they can do!

typical boy racers car, not suprising it costs a 17 year old a fortune to insure.

What would be a less conspicuous car for a 17 year old to have then?

Have any idea on how much you would be paying once you are 17 and have passed your test?

Have spoken to a lot of people (mostly on here) who paid around £900.

In the last year or so, insurance for new drivers has definitely risen by a stupid amount - not that it was ever dirt cheap. £2500 on a Corsa around here wouldn't be considered outrageously high. The really cheap ones are all on classic insurance, which is the way to go if its viable I would guess.

Only thing I can say is try Co-Op; almost everyone I know who's a new driver since Quinn went bust has gone with them, consistently cheapest (Do it through their own site, dunno if they're on price comparisons). Hope that helps smile

Also, as others have been saying; the cars in mention do have a certain 'image' about them that bumps the price up significantly. A small engined Astra/Focus/Escort etc (1.4) will be cheaper.

Paid £650 TPFT in my first year. All in my own name, none of that fronting jazz..

Classic Mini Cooper biggrin Probably had miles more fun driving it than all of my mates fiestas and stuff too... until I crashed it, and replaced it with another, slower, mini sprite, insured this year for £650 fully comp with no NCB and an accident... not baad wink

yes i'm with co-op £990 a year on a 205 1.1 with pass plus fully comp and breakdown included my area isn't the best either smile

You could go on classic insurance although the disadvantage is you don't accumulate ncb

Wow, just 3 years ago when I was 18 and had my 1.6 GTi with a couple of declared mods I was only paying £980 FC with no NCB

When I first started driving I had a Ford Fiesta that cost £1.5k to insure, was only £100 more to insure an XKR valued at £20k more than the Fiesta laugh

Trouble is that both a saxo and a corsa are prime boyracer cars, probably a big reason for the high premium.
