Well I suppose it's not quite a barge, but it's a V8 at least smile

After getting an offer too good to refuse on the 540i, i've been on the look out for a replacement since the begining of the month. This popped up on eBay about 2 weeks ago, i struck a deal, but have had to wait until today for the cherished plate to be removed.

Anyway its a 1999 T C43, mileage has just clicked over to 109,000 miles on my way back from Ipswich. There is some rust on the front wings (as usual on W202 Merc's), some on the nearside door bottoms and a patch on the bonnet, nothing serious and i intend to bring it back to its former glory over the following months. One benefit of working at a Mercedes dealership is cheaper parts, labour and the knowledge of our technicians smile

Any comments are welcome thumbup

That looks a cracker, got a soft spot for these with the C43 and AMG badges removed.

Nice sleeper, the body kit is subtle on these, only the fat AMG wheels give it away, I'd remove the AMG rear badge myself smile.

Great stuff. thumbup

I've always fancied a C36, only for the reason of cheaper parts (brakes, exhausts and the such)

They make a great noise too. biggrin

Nice buy.

My mate has recently picked up a 2003 BMW 530d for £1400, not a bad buy IMHO

It sounds extremely cheap Autotrader is nowhere near that but most of the adverts there are placed by dealers. What's the mileage?

I thought the C36 was far more expensive to run as there were a lot more bespoke parts made for it. The C43 used most parts from other cars in the Merc line up ?

I had a look at these - for me the perfect package.

I was sorely disapointed by the fit and finish and the rust, and the steering feel was badly weighted and lacking in feel. I can forgive the steering......but the rust ?

What is your estimate for getting the rust repaired ? I understood that the Merc warranty was for perforation only. I was quoted around 2000 pounds for a proper repair to the multiple effected panels on the one I looked at. I heard a rumor that trade price for a resprayed panel is around 200 pounds.

What is your understanding of the ongoing rust issues ? I have seen C Classes dissolve in pretty much every area......once you fix it will it be gone forever ?

Around 90k so a bit high but not monster mileage.

It just needed a new turbo, that was all and a good valet.

It is in stunning condition though and has the full M kit (from the factory).

He has spent around £400-500 on it putting it right.

90K is probably below average on a 5 series of that age; most of them end up on fleets. Utter bargain but I suppose he did take the risk on the turbo fault.
