Going to Europe and need a GB sticker.

Does it have to be one of those oval ones - or actaully anything that says GB on it would be fine?

i.e. would the pistonheads one do the job?

Thanks

You get them on ferry, normally.

The PH Shop 'GB' should be just fine.

Depending on the car I like the chrome 'GB' badges - works best on classics like an E-type.

Only the GB stickers with either the oval 'GB' in black text with a white background, or the Eurozone blue GB stickers are legal.

Any 'England' (St George Cross) or Scottish with 'SCO' or Welsh dragon plates are not legal, and you look like a chav.

However, if you have a GB ident on your number plate you dont need a sticker.

Having said all that, the amount of people who dont display either is staggering, and i cant imagine your average Gendarm stopping anyone for it.

Except it is just one more thing to get their back up, along with your hi-viz jacket left naughtily in the boot, when they are pondering how big an on the spot fine you deserve when caught rushing back for the ferry at just a little over the speed limit...

I've had a cheap little magnetic one for years, bought from a petrol station on the way down... When I'm not abroad it lives on the toolbox, or inside the bootlid if there is apparent metal... Can't fault it!

Indeed, I’m not saying it’s a good idea if your on the wrong side of the law already it might be something else to add to the list. Last month when i was at Dover waiting to board to Dunkerque, I put beam benders on my E90 (as it would be 0130hrs when we arrived), much to the amazement of the guy next to me who was most intrigued what i was doing.

Hi-viz is never a problem, i do a lot of Highways work so my boot is always full of it smile

If it's in the boot they will fine you, it needs to be accessible from the drivers seat! (Glovebox, under seat, on back seat etc)

Thought you only need one hi-viz accessible from the passenger compartment. You need a hi-viz for every passenger, but the rest can be in the boot can't they?

Displaying these on your number plates are perfectly legal but you will need to add a GB badge when travelling abroad.

That would be eminently sensible so makes me doubt it can be true hehe

Thats what i meant, France is generally classed as 'abroad'. Its a travesty of taste and decency that anything other than the GB EU stars plates are allowed anyway IMO. smile

You said they are not legal, they are and personally I think the worst travesty is having the EU stars of unelected socialist oppression on your plate, but everyone to his own.

The real travesty is the standardised 'squashed' Charles Wright font to accomodate that ugly blue bar. I hope that bar remains optional forever.

Dear oh dear, i didnt realise it was making such a statement, anyway if 'unelected socialist opression' is so terrible you should have no reason to visit in your vehicle.

So you're allowed to call anyone with an England, Scotland or Wales symbol as allowed by the DVLA a chav, but if I don't like the unelected and unaccountable nature of the EU (which in your ignorance you confuse with a dislike of european countries, several of which I've lived in) it upsets you does it? Sounds more like you're the chav to me and an ignorant one at that.

Dear oh dear, calm down old boy, the chav comment was flippant as you well know. I'l say that your better than me and you will soon feel better. smile

I think it's pretty obvious what he meant.
