Need some tyres 17" 215/45

I'd be sorely tempted by a set of uniroyal rainsport 2's in that size, just because i've not yet tried them but people seem to rave about them

Yep - can agree with this. I replaced my Dunlops with 452s for the rear of my 530, and have to say they are every bit as good as the premium Dunlops. I used Event - they come and fir them at your work, so no need to see tyre Monkeys on a Saturdaywww.event-tyres.co.uk

I had Uniroyal RS2s in the past and was very impressed with the performance all round; I remember them being very good in the cold depths of winter particularly; I've also been very happy with TR1s and the Falken 452s which I currently on my 93.http://www.tyrepricebuster.co.uk/TyreSearch_All_21...
First off - make the switch to 225/45/17 - cheaper and more plentifully available. Only 10mm difference so pretty much guaranteed to fit your rims and clear the arches.
Brands I have tried :
Toyo T1R - A great tyre, 99% as good in dry as more expensive rubber, if I have a criticsm its that they get very soft under heat and on a heavy car this causes premature wear.
Goodyear Eagle F1's - More expensive than the T1R, but they last longer as they are more stable under heat, and they are better in the wet.
Continental Sport Contact 2/3 - I think these are the best tyres for steering feel/precision if fitted to the front of a RWD car.

I found both the T1R and Eagle F1 GSD3 to be too soft/weak in the sidewalls which wore the shoulders quite fast and also made them very prone to punctures - most of them got retired due to chewed shoulders or punctures (sidewall cuts generally) before the tread had time to wear out. The punctures mostly occurred on gravel though to be fair, which is probably less likely for you.
I'm now using Bridgestone RE001 instead which are much better in that regard, grip better when warm (not quite as good from cold), tramline less and are much quieter. Cheaper too.

Heard good things about Hankooks, anyone use Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110?
Yes I've had them on my Diesel ZS for about 2 years, just finishing off the front set now. No complaints at all, and they cope well with the heavy front end on mine, with the sidewalls not being too soft. I've got about 20,000 miles out of the fronts I estimate, although it's not clear cut as I have rotated them. So not the hardest wearing tyre, but plenty of grip, even tread wear, and no nasty tendancies, although I haven't got many other tyres to compare them to. They are better than Nankang NS2 by miles, and less wobbliness in the sidewall than Toyo T1R's. With less than about 2.5mm aquaplaning has happened a bit, but most tyres would be like this also. One minor complaint is that I have picked up a few punctures running them, maybe down to the softer rubber, but also could be due to the amount of careless builders working locally.I'm about to order some more from Camskill.
