BMW Reveals Latest Art Car

Jeff Koons' M3 GT2 'canvas' shown in Paris before heading to Le Mans

BMW yesterday revealed its latest Art Car, the M3 GT2 racer, at the Pompidou Centre in Paris. The next stop for the number 79 car is Le Mans on 12-13 June, where it will be driven by Brit touring car legend Andy Priaulx, Dirk Müller and Dirk Werner.

Artist Jeff Koons' work involves hundreds of hard-edged lines of colour, with graphics representing debris on the back and sides of the car to symbolise its power, and two graphic rings on the rump to represent 'supersonic acceleration'.

The concept for the 17th BMW Art Car was turned into reality with a CAD 3D design translated into two dimensions for printing and then applied as a digital print on car wrapping vinyl.

You can find out a little more about the history of BMW's Art Cars in our previous story on Koons' project, or have a quick ogle at some Art Cars of the past by clicking 'play' on the video below.

This is my favourite angle..

Or is it this one. I can’t remember.

Jeffy K might have, allegedly, taken this old Hungarian up (to) the Ring.

Any high res pics of the car without the guy in it? Please step away from the vehicle sir. You're not a hot brunette.

I like it - maybe because Iam a pistonhead and it reminds me of the zebra lines car designers put on the latest models whilst they are road testing pre-release, so I might automatically lust after anything in stripes.

Isn't that a heat shield? Function over form if it is. Saying that, I very much doubt the car will be used in anger for it to be effective.

ETA: Just read the article (helps to now and again!) and indeed it will be used in anger, so heat shields are very much going to be effective!

Incorrect. This is the actual car that will be racing at Le mans, driven by Brit Andy Priaulx among others.

edit: I see you re-read the article... hehe

Probably. wink

As it's a functional aero piece on a racing car, it is kind of necessary, not like it's a golf-club-posing-spec M3 that only needs a small lip to look sporty.
