Just a quick question
Are you allowed numbers on the side of your car, 'Racing' numbers if you like
As some cars you can buy from dealers with them on now but a mate just got threatened with 3points if he didn't remove them for inciting racing

Anyone got any ideas?

MSA = Motor Sports Association, the governing body for such things in the UK.

The MSA regs specify a size for numbers when participating in an event, so actually insist that you do have them.

I think 300bhp/ton is saying that if you had other numbers on the side of your car that weren't the same as the number you are supposed to be diplaying for that event, then that's against their regs?

There have been plenty of beetles with 53 over them for decades. Never heard of any being pulled over / failing MOT... or anything...

Inciting racing?! What a stupid accusation. People potter around in full WRC rep subarus without problems, infact WRC cars are all road legal. Could they be done for inciting racing?

Rally cars are supposed to only display them whilst on event, soon as the event finishes, they should be covered or a line put through them.

WRC rep people don't bother obviously.

I got pulled for having 69 in my car but not because I was inciting racing...

If he was threatened (or "warned") by a police officer I'd be taking it up with the local station to clarify the position. Pronto.

I thought you could have them but if not participating in competition at the time you're supposed to have a diagonal line through them.

But why would anyone want racing numbers on their road car?

Well.. i did. for the reason it completed the 'look' i was going for. guess it all depends on the car really doesnt it.
I often used it on the track, but just for track days not racing.
I regulary drove past police / had cops following me on the road / had police having a nosey around (interest in the car, not looking for any issues in particular) and i never had a comment about the numbers.

I say do it. take a chance. As said above, id say you should be given a warning before they dish out points really, its hardly the crime of the century.

(ok i have now officially posted that pic up too many times recently!!)

Sort of. But the msa regs say you shouldn't display competion numbers on the public highway (or words to that affect). And some associations might be quite strict and prevent you entering events if you do so.
