Yesterday I took my Convertible (IROC) into a local place to have an alarm fitted. It actually already had a 90's vintage 'Serpent' system in it, but I had no key fobs and I wanted something fitted that was current and likely to work smile

Anyway, I was quoted £390 for a Cobra 4138 Thatcham alarm fitted. Quite a simple job as all of the wiring was in place from the old system. £250 for the alarm and £140 for fitting.

Later that day, picked it up and got a demo. You have to be standing right next to the door for the alarm to engage or disengage by the key fob which pissed me off to start with. It appears he has used the sensor from my old system as a new Cobra should work from 5-10 metres from the car. I then asked how it works with the top down and he said that it was using the old system and sensors were an extra and nobody had told him. He said I should try it and see how I got on with it etc.

It was late so I paid up and left.

So I'm left with a bitter taste. I was quoted for a complete system, which in mind constitutes the whole shabang, including sensors.

I checked prices for the system on ebay. £140 for the system (instead of £250) and I could get it complete, fitted for £239.99!! £150 cheaper than this place in Leicester.

The other thing is I have to practically be at the door to dis-arm, surely that isn't right?

Anyone got any advice? First time in ages that I feel completely duffed over on a big(ish) job.

Thanks all

Go back and tell him you're not satisfied with it. Consumer rights and 30 days springs to mind wink

Did you not get any other quotes before accepting the price ?

Did you get a written quote ?

If you have been quoted one thing and get another then I'd be back knocking on their door.
