I know there's an inordinate amount of diesel-hatred on here... but don't you just love big older diesels?
A mate has just bought a '99 Merc Sprinter 310 (which I think has a 2.9?) and it sounds wonderful. I can't put my finger on what it is - but it's brilliant.
Anyone else like this?

Can't say i love them but some of them i admire for their lazy pace
I absolutely love driving vans which we borrow from work to take things to the tip. That happens probably once every 2 years. But when it does i thoroughly enjoy ragging the HELL out of it. It has character, a novelty. One that only lasts for the 1 or 2 days i have it

We just bought a B7 A4 with a 3.0 Tdi and it goes pretty well, as well as sounding "ok" for a Derv.
may have to get a Miltek for it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EiWkkJZY0Y

Always liked the off-beat noise from a TD5 Land Rover/ Discovery.

And that shows the exact problem with the diesel. Just as the noise is about to get going you've got to change gear.may have to get a Miltek for it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EiWkkJZY0Y

The European Commission, European Courts & European Investment Bank in Luxembourg have a fleet of these things for moving stuff/people between building locations in Lux. I think their drivers are pretty comfortable.
