I've just used one of those hand carwash places that have sprung up everywhere in the last 18 months.

They did a very good job apart from one thing. That black stuff which they coat the outer wall of your tires in to make them look shiny does not dry quick enough. I've got home and had a look at the car and both sides are covered in lots of tiny specs of this black sticky substance. What is it that they use? They must realise it doesn't dry within the space of about 30 seconds so why use it furious

Never known it to be black liquid!

Sure they didn't use a pot of tar?

Tyre slick (or dressing), either sprayed or painted on.

The gels are better if you need to get moving asap.

i would also advise removing the black asap before it bakes on - once on it is a pain in the arse to remove..

I would advise avoiding all together, i did it once and my car looked like it had been washed by a brillo pad when the sun came out.

They typically use ONE sponge for the whole friggin car......

The trade have a habit of coating it on with a thick brush and with little attention to excessive application.

Our place apply something akin to diesel with a brush. MASSIVE sideways moment when I pulled out onto the main road. I think they painted the tread.

I went to one recently and I swear they used black paint. They looked brand new for weeks.
