Hi, I'm a driving enthusiast, something I truely love doing!
I can't think of the amount of times I see bad drivers on the road and wish there was something I could about it! People on their phones, dangerous manouvers, the usual stuff.
I'd love to be a police interceptor, does anyone know the process needed to be taken to become one?
Any advice welcommened, thanks

I'd love to do it too, racing round the country in a big fast car, catching bad people, eating doughnuts, getting paid overtime, moping up blood and bits of kids, dealing with parents of previous mentioned kids....!

I've a big respect for the lads who do this job. On the face of it yes, I'd love to do it, but I just couldn't deal with the other aspects that the job involves.

Could you?

Apply to join Police Force, pass entry tests (you will get marked down for spelling mistakes wink) complete training, do your two years minimum (depending on Force) as a 'regular' copper and then......apply to join the Traffic Division.....again, pass entry tests, complete driver training (not easy) and then you're a Traffic Cop.

Oh come on chaps, play nice.

I assume the OP is referring to becoming a Traffic Officer, or a Pursuit driver.

I have often wondered myself if they did a fast-track course, but apparently not.

You have to go through the normal procedure of becoming a PC, so 2yrs of training etc. Then you can, i believe, specialise later on.

I'm sure a member of the BiB will be along to confirm/put me right.

First, you have to get in to Plod, can take upto 2 years (Colleague of mine's application took 18 months). After that, there was something like 8 months of training, then 2 years of probation work, then you can specialise. Everyone and their dog wants to be a traffy officer, so probably will take you a few more years before you are picked.

Yup, a lot of Traffic Div's have been cut back, so the wait for vacancies could be a lot longer these days.

I wouldn't want the job, especially attending accident scenes, first one there, checking for survivors and the like.
