Hire cars are faster then regular cars. Well at least the ones i have had have been. Same as courtesy cars, you seem to rag them silly.

My Vectra was an ex-rental. Rolling roaded to 161hp standard, book is 140hp. Shame the engine took a dump at 20k. And again at 22k.

I bought a 2006 Vauxhall Vectra SRi (Nav) when it was six months old for way less than half of what it would have cost to buy new. It was an ex-rental with 18,000 miles on the clock. I knew it was an ex-rental but as hey had about 50 of them in I could look around them very carefully and pick and choose. I owned it for a year, it ran superbly, I then sold it a year later to another dealer and got exactly what I paid for it!

Some were clearly ragged to within an inch of their lives however! You have to be very careful!

Given how I drive and treat hire cars, the same way most people do, I would never, ever, ever, ever buy an ex hire car.

Mine was OK when I got it at 16k, but the engine started leaking oil. Went in a few times, ended up having to get the engine rebuilt, then it started galloping oil, then had to rebuilt again. End up I traded it in for the Lancer, it's someone else's trouble now. I don't have the time to fart about going to dealers every week.

It did go very, very well for a 1.8VVT, though, and I really liked the car as a whole.

Errr, I hate to break to you, but pretty much 90% of all Network Q, Ford Direct, Renault To Go (pretty much all manufacturer approved used car programme) cars are ex-rental. The rental industry disposes of hundreds of thousands of cars a year - where do you think they go to? Most I would assume are bought and are no more trouble than the other 10% which usually come from ex-demos (ragged more than rental cars), cancelled orders, rejections and a tiny amount from trade-ins.

I don't get the whole 'We Hate Vectras' thing - I know they're not superb to drive but on the whole they're good cars.

Shouldn't the engine have been repaired under manufacturers warranty? That was what made me go for an ex-rental - not having to worry about huge repair bills!

Some say the best way to deal with Vectra blues is to scrap it before you spend more than it's worth on it! You know the like - fix one thing, another thing pops up.

And I'm not hating. smile

Why do people think it's funny and somehow praiseworthy to rag the arse off hire cars to the point they are stuffed.

How old are these people? 12?

Funny?! It's fun - nothing more to it. Not your motor - so rag the fook out of it. Something you wouldn't want to do with your own perhaps (well, some will do).

Not saying it's the right thing to do, so don't get it twisted. But most people have done so in the past, right?

You've obviously not dealth with Vauxhall warranty then. Any repair is usually proceeded by 3 visits to the dealership, each time 2 weeks apart due to a lack of courtesy cars. They only authorise the bare minimum work be done, effectively wasting the customer's time in repeat visits.

Indeed, that must be why the Duratec in the Mondeo hasn't given me any bother, as it looks like it fell out of the 80's. biggrin
