I am travelling a long way (350 mile round trip) to buy a car. Due to the distance if I like it, I want to buy it there and then. I have received enough pictures and responses to my questions from the seller for me to be fairly sure its the one I want.

The only problem is I don't like the idea of carrying £10,000 worth of cash with me, along with the chance the buyer thinks its counterfeit. Are there any other means of purchasing a car on the spot without having to wait for a few days for banks to cash cheques etc?

cheers guys

I did something called faster payment, was instant, irreversible and free for sums up to £10k. I didn't need to prearrange it with the bank either.

Need to check that both accounts will do that though.

My Alliance Leicester accounts says it will do it, but if I send over £250, it still takes 3 day for "fraud checks".

My RBS account and HSBC do it instantly for any amount.

Don't forget to make all the usual checks:-

Check Chassis number not been tampered with.

Make sure you meet seller at his home, (not in pub car park etc).

View in daylight.

Try to get as long a test ride as is reasonable.

Hpi it.

Good luck.....thumbup
