Dealerships / Showrooms Closing Down - Can You Help?
Discussion
Hi there
OK, this is a bit random. I run an arts space in East London - The Rag Factory. As a part of our ongoing refurbishment project, we very much need some large, tall, opening glass walls - the sort that are commonly fitted to dealership frontages.
Needless to say, especially in the current climate, we can't afford the tens of thousands of pounds needed to buy such things from new. It occurs to me, however, that with dealerships / showrooms closing, such things might become available.
The usual architectural salvage companies are generally useless for such things - they aren't seen as "antiques" and, hence, are just skipped by demolition contractors. I just missed out on a set of glass partitions the other day which went crashing into the skip 5 minutes before I turned up
So, I wonder, can anybody help with some pointers to sites being redeveloped? Although I'm based in central London, I'm willing to travel more-or-less nationwide to collect the right things. The ideal would be multiple, narrow-but-tall panels on a track, but I'll consider most options! Obviously some contact details would be perfect, but I'm obviously willing to do quite a bit of legwork to make this happen.
Equally, if anybody is involved with demolition / refurbishment and could help on this score, I'd be enormously grateful. Or if you can suggest ways I could search (or different places on PH I could post this request) then please go ahead and make suggestions - there are no wrong answers here!
Of course, if anybody is in the moveable glass wall business and would like to make a donation then we'd be enormously grateful, but this isn't a begging post.
Many thanks! On the off-chance that anybody is able to help, PM is fine, or I'll be checking this thread.
PS we're also looking for internal glass partitioning and glass doors - again, lease-end strip-outs tend to result in this being skipped, so once again any tips would be very gratefully received! Oh and we're going to have to replace nearly 120 square metres of glass roof at some point in the next few years (currently single-glazed patent glazing with Georgian wired glass), so if you know a Mr Pilkington or a M. St Gobain then let me know

Try looking at www.am-online.co.uk this is the motor trade industry magazine, often has info on new build dealerships. Which usually replace older sites, the glass you require might be available prior to demolition.
You could try motortrade magazine as well for similar info. Hth.
