Hi guys,

Currently I drive a renaultsport megane f1, which I absolutely adore. However circumstances change and it goes without saying that the r26 isn't exactly the cheapest form of motoring!

I've spent days in the classifieds trying to find something to take my fancy! I've looked through the vrs's, vr6's, mps's, Renault 5 turbo's, zetec-s's, and so on! I need guidance.

The idea is cheap yet bursting with fun and character!
The spectrum is wide open
And the floor is all yours!

May your ideas flow and memories flood back!

It's difficult to save money by buying a new car.

To really save money you are going to have to look to save almost all of you Renault's sale value to allow for any problems with the new car.

Mx5
mr2 mk1
205 mi-16
Honda Crx

basically try to spend no more than 2-3k...

With a history of ctr's I'd say Japanese would be a safe bet!
Are the mx5's as much fun as they are claimed to be though?

This or a 106 Rallye. You'll get it when you drive one.

Starlet turbo aint a bad shout, the handling isnt as sharp as a 106gti/vts, but overall its a fun nippy car, plus its got old school lag which is always amusing.

With the saxo's, what was the difference between the vts and the vtr?

Vts = 120bhp 1.6 16v insurance group 14
Vtr = 90/98bhp 1.6 8v insurance group 7

VTS has a 120 bhp 1.6 16valve motor. The VTR has a 90bhp (or is it 100?) 8valve motor but doesn't feel that much slower than the VTS due to both having similar torque output. Both cars are fun to drive.

Perfect answer, suprised anyone on pistonheads even needs to ask the question these days!

Otherwise 106 Gti / Rallye if you need the extra space.

E36 328 sport. Should get a good one for £2000 or a really good one for £3000.

I adore mine. it does 34mpg with a mix of motorway and commuting. its done 140k and feels tight as a ducks do dah!

Lol nice Graham!

Yeah I like the sound of the 106's

That's pretty good value for a 2.8 bm in all fairness! I did like the old m3, pretty sure that wouldn't fetch 34mpg though, lol
