I'm seriously looking at an octavia vRS, whilst most of them have a FSSH one I am looking for has been serviced at 2 independents for its last two. Both were on time & receipts for all the parts are included...therefore is there anything to be hesitant about?

This is the first time iv spent a good chunk of money on a car so just want to make sure! cheers guys smile

In my experience a decent independant (emphasis on decent) will more often than not do a far better job than the so called technicians at a main dealer.

It wouldn't put me off.

Give the independant a call and ask him about the car.

As long as there are receipts to back up the stamps I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Depends on what you mean by an independant. A VW/Audi/skoda speciallist, a local garage or a chain such as Kwik Fit.

The first wouldn't bother me in the slightest, the second would make me pause for a second but the third would have me chcking stuff like plus and air filters to see if they had been changed or not.

I'll take a VAG specialist over VW any day of the week, and I do smile

I would much rather have a full service history from an Indy then a main dealer personally.

In all the time I have used main dealers, primarily for warranty protection I found them to provide an average level of work. That being said there are good and bad in both areas of the industry although generally for a similar amount of expenditure you will get a more thorough job with the specialists who are less concerned with service times than a main dealer has to be.

For me it depends whether the indy was a specialist.

IMO:

BEST_______________________________WORST.
Indy specialist > Main dealer > General indy.
