according to this article

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/04/report-2011-eur...

Ford was developing a "small" 4.4 litre diesel V8 for it's F-150 for light duty work to go alongside it's new 6.7 litre diesel

However ford cancelled it as it decided a turbo petrol V6 would be a better option.

According to inside information range rover will use this engine instead to replace it's 3.6 litre TDV8

308bhp and over 500lb/ft of torque

All I can say is.... Hooray!!!

After looking at the 160mph F-250 thread, hopefully this motor has some good tuning potential

Yep, been reading this on and off for some time. I'd just like to see that engine make it's way into a Defender and maybe make use of the full 6.7 litre variant.

Land Rover - fool on you!!!

Should have made so much better use of Ford's "parts bin" when they still owned you.

that may be a possibility considering the new defender will be using a chassis based off the current discovery/range rover generation

Yeah, I'm not sold on this. I think it'll end up being a "badge" engineering style job for the US market to make use of the notoriety of the "Defender" name over their. And I suspect it'll be made more a lifestyle vehicle than a workhorse.

What they should have done was knicked the F150 hydroformed chassis, axles and transmissions. Chopped it down to size, Land Roverfyied it with proper off road ability. Aluminum body and more modern safety features.

It would then still be a proper off roader work horse, but it'd be strong, tough and better than ever.
