after years of spending my hard earned cash on finance, fuel, insurance etc im thinking of maybe a year out.
ok i thought, i need cheap diesel commuting type vehicle.
1.9 tdi VW Bora, no idea why but i think theyre fairly cool.
quick check on insurance....£550!!!!
what?? the cars only worth £1500!
i only pay £535 on my 08 123d, i only paid £480 on my Focus ST and that was modded! and my scoob sti was only £700!
whats going on?

There is a common misconception that insurance is all about the repair cost of a car.
In reality in terms of the risk, it is only a small part of it.
That car will be a whole load easier to steal than your beemer, and you will be no less (statistically more according to their data) likely to crash.
Damage to other cars, personal injury etc, are just as high with a £1500 car as they are with your £20k+ or so beemer.
