English, spelling and grammar would be a good starting point IMO wink

Seriously, easiest way to make a slow car faster is sell it!!!!! And by something that is faster.

Wasting money on pointless mods on a car such as a 1.6 Focus is like pissing in the ocean to try and make it a yellow colour all over.

Buying a 2.0 Focus (which is still a poor performance car and tuning bed) will give you more power and performance than messing about throwing money away on adding parts to a 1.6

And don't think I'm against modding, I'm not, contently have 3 modified vehicles of various degrees. Just trying to give you a heads up that's all smile

You got the 1.6 due to insurance reasons and then you want a evo for next year?? I think you will find your insurance will double in price with a evo. Also because you will be modifying your Focus this will increase your insurance policy too.

I wouldn't try and be funny by spending any sum of money trying to get power gains from a 1.6 Focus.

If you're saving for an Evo then put the money you would have spent on the Focus in the bank and splash it on insurance, road tax and fuel when the new car arrives. You'll be pissing money down the drain on your current car and you won't get the money back when you sell it.

If you've got 145bhp from an exhaust and filter we should be the ones asking you about tuning. Don't know about the Puma bits but it's almost certainly not worth it.

You do realise that the insurance will probably be cheaper if you sell the 1.6 and buy something faster (I know its already been said).

As soon as you tell your insurance company about the list of modifications you have added to the car your premium will sky rocket no doubt.

Don't forget to fold your back seats down. Makes a hell of difference you know.

Oh and a good wax (I recommend Autoglym for the syk streamline effect yo) will make the car go faster because it makes the car more slippery.

You can also get some awesome chips on ebay for about £3 and some electric superchargers. However be warned this massive boost in power is likely to increase your compression ration massively (because more airs going in like) so you'd best get one of those broquet in tank fuel treatments with the lead pellets because that will give you super unleaded every time you fill up. Oh and an FSE power boost valve would be a good idea to stop flat spots.

I reckon with how tuneable that engine is you should see at least 300 brake at the wheels.

Only just noticed your only running 145bhp, clearly you should be running an ebay special:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-FORD-KA-FIESTA-FOCUS-TUR...

adds upto 20hp don't you know! that'll take you to ~165bhp driving

/ Couldn't help my self smile

How much has that added to your insurance?

Ah the monifold. If he'd said it had a monifold fitted well I'd have never questioned it. Infact are you sure it's set up right? Surely a monifold should produce minimum 100hp??

There is not an engine in the land (of the NA boring car variety) that a change of inlet/exhaust and rechip will result in a 50% increase of power from. To get anywhere near that level would cost a lot of time and money in reducing losses from the bottom end, improving breathing at the top end via cams, porting and most likely increasing the CR.

Incidentally the 1.7 Puma engine is a Yamaha designed engine (sigma from memory?), while you may fit the TB and other parts across if your lucky I would doubt there are any substantially interchangeable parts with the home grown ford Zetec engine, however I could well be wrong.

What I can guarantee however is that no matter what you fit to that basic engine as it currently stands you have in your car short of going forced induction you will not see 145HP from it.

If your serious about tuning the 1.6 engine speak to Shaw Speed they do a lot of engines for kit cars and the 1.6 Zetec engine is one they have a lot of experience with but I doubt it'll be cheap.

The 2.0 focus is a poor performance car but i'd argue about it being a poor tuning bed.

The 2.0 zetec is used extensivley in the kit car world and there are plenty of mods you can do to push the power to well over 200bhp.

A decent manifold (the standard one is junk), high flow cat and exhaust system can see decent gains. Add a couple of high lift cams, a remap and a big bore throttle body and you should see the best part of 160bhp.

If you wish to go further then you need either forced induction or to go down the individual throttle body route.
