Who buys these things???
Discussion
I give you the Ssangyong Rodius

Just spotted one of these today and my immediate thought was, Who in their right mind would actually buy one of these things?
Maybe, just maybe I could see the appeal 2nd hand and simply down to the absolute fortune one of these is bound to shed in it's first year and only if you have a pile of kids and do not care at all for style or prestige or any form of driver dynamics etc
Can't think of anything worse and can't imagine who looks at one of these brand new and thinks its a good idea. I usually give the small Hyundai's, Protons and the like the benefit of the doubt but this monstrosity I do not get.
Can anyone do any better (or worse)

I asked a very similar question here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... & apparently it's because they are cheap but still can tow a caravan & ferry a family around blah blah blah.....
Awful, awful looking machines.

t, don't ever post here or on any other forum ever again!Although you do raise a point as I too saw one of these today, although the lady who was bringing out trollies of flowers to the front of B&Q seemed slightly perplexed and had no understanding of me stopping dead next to her, eyes wide agazed upon it's marvellous hideous beauty and said
"By the power of Grey Skull, It's Moby Dick, do my eyes deceive me is that a Rodius, oh my dear God, it is"
It was at the time I thought best to leave, before she called me a complete mentalist
The thing is, it's big and cheap. For some people, that's all that's necessary in a car. I can forgive the looks because spending a fortune on a fancy design would have pushed up the price.
What I find harder to forgive are the expensive ugly cars - what's that Mercedes abortion? R class? Not forgetting the Q7, Cayenne, Panamera, etc. What's their excuse?

I am of the opinion that some people buy a car so as to be deliberately not a drivers' kind of car, i.e. to reflect how not bothered by driving/cars they are. "It gets me from A to B" etc...
I'm also of the opinion that some cars are designed and marketed to be slight 'ugly ducklings' to satisfy this customer desire.
The case in point is Skoda, whose products are never the most aesthetically pleasing variant of the same VAG platform, are priced a little bit cheaper than the Seat/Audi/VW equivalent (despite presumably costing a very similar amount to produce) and hence are a bullseye for this kind of buyer.
I'm not comparing Skoda to Ssangyong before I get flamed, but it's easier to explain using different companies with common ownership.
