Has come on in a mates 56 reg VW Polo while they are out getting fish and chips - should they call a mechanic before driving home or get home and then take it in tomorrow?

if its the same light as the handbrake its normally a low fluid level warning light, caused by the cylinders'/calipers' being moved out due to wear in the brake friction components. If thats the case its not a problem, but if its low because of a leak they should get it seen to.

Either way a fluid top up is probably whats needed.
