There seems to be a lot of fun posts in this forum at the moment, so forgive this one for being a bit dull.

The electric window on my a3 seems to be struggling when going up, on the last 2 or 3 inches of window. It noticeably slows down. Today, however, as it reached this last few inches it stopped, paused then went back down a few inches, as if it detected something had gotten stuck. I then left it, came back a few hours later, and it went back up all the way again, however it still struggled.

The car is 10 years old now, has anyone had a problem like this before? Could it be the motor, the regulator or the window is misaligned or something? Any advice appreciated!

The window scissor arm mechanism may need lubricating or just check that there hasn't been any crap that has accumulated in the rail that could impede the mechanism.

More likely is that some little clips in the mechanism have broken. This is nothing major and was a fairly common (I think) problem on VAG cars of the period. Have a butchers at this guide.

In either case, if the A3 is anything like my Seat Toledo, getting the doorcard off for a look takes minutes.

Might be off the mark here, but no-one's tried jimmying the door open very briefly have they?

Lower the window and spray silicone spray into the runners. If you can't get any silicone spray use furniture polish. Then raise and lower the window a few times and it may well sort the problem out. Don't use oil etc as it tends to make the rubber sticky after a while.
