My wee puddle jumper 206 1.4hdi has developed the infamous bottom pulley rattle....

Anyone estimate what an indy should be taking to replace it? Ebay and Euro have the part just under £60 and the job itself is not particularly difficult - aux belt off, bolt out (most difficult bit , very tight apparently), pulley off, line up new pulley, bolt in, belt on.

I dont have the tools nor expertise do to it myself. Guess a garage will take an hour's labour?

Thought I would update this given Peugeot / Citroen Hdi crankshaft pulleys appear to be made of cheese....

Peugeot want £112 for the part, which I believe is now modified from the original design. Factors offering other brands parts from about £55.

I phoned around 3 garages for a price including fitting...

Peugeot dealer (car came with full Pug history...) wanted over £200 redface
Local garage with good reputation wouldnt quote me over phone as, and I quote the girl who I was speaking to "there are lots of pulleys" and "we need the engine code" - it appears that even with engine code and part number they still wouldnt give me a quote without looking at the car.
Other local garage chain with three or four garages in a ten mile radius were very helpful. Before I could tell them, when I told them the make and model of car, the chap asked if it was for a crank pulley... He took some details, called me back 5 mins later, £140 for Peugeot part fitted and they'll stick a new aux belt on it too, which I want to do anyway given there's 68k and 7 years on the current one and its got to be taken off anyway...

Car goes in tomorrow which means braving public transport to get back from the garage and to get there again later to pick the car up....argh

This is a simple job, i've recently changed the cambelt and auxillary belt on my 206 hdi, only just finished doing the clutch which was a nightmare!!

The bolt itself is not that tight, you need to fit a locking pin into the flywheel so that it does not rotate when you try to undo the bolt.

Save yourself some money and do it yourself!

If the clutch is as bad as the 406 hdi then you have my sympathies. I did one years back, and hell will freeze over before I do one again.

I would but I live on a hill, dont have the tools and I'm a clumsy bd biggrin

Its only £30 more than Pug would want for the part on its own, and I'll make that up in fuel savings pdq compared to what I was paying for fuel with my last car I guess smile

I have heard about these 206s eating clutches and gearboxes.....mine's ok so far touch wood, even with one previous female senior citizen owner..

I feel the same, such a pokey area to be working in, the o/s drive shaft wouldn't come out of the intermediate bearing housing, lots of other niggly bits. I found it easier changing the clutch on my Evo which was twice the work but so much quicker.

OP, go and get yourself a small tool kit, a Haynes manual and you'll be laughing, you can save yourself a packet on a cam belt change too biggrin

To be honest, given your experience and lack of tools, you probably could do it yourself - EVENTUALLY!!!
For the extra it's costing you for the labour from the garage (you'll pay £55 for the part itself plus extras) its definitely worth it.

I've just had a quick look on the Peugeot parts database, the dealer is making a nice little mark up on that pulley. Peugeot list it as £54.52 inc Vat.

Even for the 1.4 ?

I believe the 2.0 one is cheaper, probably as its more common.

No wonder I keep my car away from main dealers redface

Yes, that was for the 1.4. I'm glad I didn't buy my clutch from them, £200!

I paid £100 for the part and labour on my 2.0 HDi. I don't think it took them that long to do. Maybe an hour tops.

It's easy if you have an impact wrench. Or have a bit of muscle. Last bottom pulley I did was on a mates Mondeo. Was quite fun actually. But then, I'm a tool we, so that changes it.
