Ever been around it? It actually works quite well. As a solution to the issue of keeping the traffic moving for so many roads that join at the same point - its actually quite clever. Certainly NOT as bad as it might seem - and its not an accident blackspot either - its been there for years....

I've never seen anything like that before, must confuse people who've never seen it before and I wonder if it confuses sat navs.

It's not confusing at all when you're using it. It looks confusing from the sky because you see the whole thing at once. When you're driving, though, it's just a mini roundabout with another mini roundabout nearby that you've not got to yet.

It doesn't cause any traffic jams, and it's proved to be safer than a big roundabout.

Only used it once - total nightmare, there is just too much going on, and it overloads the visual danger sensors smile

I'm sure it's logical once you are used to it, but it's unnecessarily complicated for what is basically a 5/6 exit roundabout. There's enough space there to have 2 decent sized normal roundabouts which would be easier to use, and probably allow the traffic to flow just as well.

I'm sure some drivers see it as a badge of courage, but I just see a very badly designed piece of road...

Pff, 5 roundabouts is for schoolgirls. Hemel's got 6.

Again, like Swindon, actually works surprisingly well.

It's just a more compact version of this one in Colchester

You just get to one mini-roundabout, then another, then another until you get to your exit. Makes more sense on the ground to be honest.

Nothing wrong with it....... although it does look like the council roads dept had an idea down the pub at kicking out time.

Not sure if I have used the same route twice...

If it's your first time the best way of getting from one side to the other is to act as if you know what you're doing. No one else does, so bully your way across and everyone will give you right of way as your confidence will lead them to assume you're in the right! biggrin

It was thought up by a guy at the Transport Laboratory.

Works well, I drive and cycle across it most days, never seen an accident and rarely see a close accident. Esp compared the the newer "in lane" roundabouts which just encourage accidents and cutting up that they have created everywhere else in Swin

Works well , unlike other parts of Swindon!

I'm noticing a trend that people who've never tried it are on the whole the ones who think it's bad, and those who have used it seem on the whole to think it's good...

Seems to have been the work of two guys named Jeff and Frank. Nothing on that wiki page says they didn't think it up in the pub beer
