I had an 04 plate a couple of years ago with the 1.9 JTD unit.

Personally I love the 147/156/GT generation cars.

The steering is sharp, the body control on the GT is nicely judged, the seats incredibly supportive, the boot huge and the 1.9 was a capable performer given the size/type.

I simply think it is a great all rounder, it has looks, handling, performance (especially with the V6)and massive practicality for a 2 door coupe.

Things to watch out for:-

Front wishbones - the bushes perish every so often and start to squeak.
Rear bushes can squeak with time as well
Cambelts - 72k or 5 years on the V6 and JTD, although many recommend 60k or 4 years (some even less) and the JTD needs it's waterpump replacing. The JTS is every 36k or 3 years.
Oil - Rarely an issue on the V6 or the JTD, but check anyway and especially levels on the JTS.

Engine replacements/rebuilds on the JTS are down to lack of oil or cambelts not changed, purely maintenance.

Buy a nice one and you will have no more problems then with a BMW/Audi.

My father has had a V6 since new.

The engine is... well.... amazing. Just has such a nice sound and pulls so well right up to the redline.

A picture.

Since new and 29k miles (coming up for three years) it has had a couple of minor issues but nothing to stop the fun.

Go get one!

Had a JTD for 2 years now, Love it!!
Only had a couple of minor problems including:-
The outer headlight (fog) is/was an absolute bugger to change, had to drop the bumper and remove headlight
Horn wouldn't work, turned out to be the contacts on the steering wheel.
Outside thermometer plays up now and again, I just live with that though.
Air con needed regassing along with new discs and pads all round but I suppose thats just maintenance.
A lot of car for the money 2nd hand, and looks the part!

The OH has a 1.9JTD Cloverleaf Q2. It's a nice looking car. The suspension is very firm, with the original Bridgestone tyre it's was better to drive around any potholes, new Conti's have lessend that.
From new it had a few issues including the rear window demister and one of the speakers not working. The brake level light came on and stayed on after about 10k. The clutch needed replacing at 25k which is not uncommon according to the dealer and a few other niggles.
It doesn't use much oil and averages about 36mpg.

Oh and the wheels look nice but are a bit of a nighmare to keep clean hehe

It really doesn't, mine averaged 45mpg and I used to drive it hard and it was still on it's original clutch at 45k miles.

The Cloverleaf Q2 is the 170bhp engine, though. Is that the one you had, or was it the 150bhp?

Saying that, the same engine in our 147 Ducati Corse struggles to get below 40mpg.

Ah of course!, mine was the 150 but like you said these units even in 170 form struggle to go under the 40 bracket. They just seem to take it in their stride, unlike the petrols whereby if you punish them, they punish your wallet at the pumps wink

It's 170bhp if you use the sport button, 150 normally, the OH doesn't use the sport button unless we are on a hoon.
I can't get 36mpg out of it when i drive the Alfa hehe I was very surprised at the low mpg but it is still better than my Scoob biggrin
