Please put me off this - S55L Merc

Self-adjusting suspension goes pop randomly and costs thousands to repair, and has also been implicated in a few serious accidents when the chassis drops onto the wheel tops/whatever it is.
Build quality was at a low then, so expect trim to be loose and generally not good.
Well that's why I didn't go for S-class of this vintage!

Or go one year earlier and get a Merc that was actually put together properly.
v12 is a sniff under 400hp, but with technology you can repair yourself. None of this computery bus nonsense.
It is fast, quiet, comfortable, goes around corners like a 2-tonne car really shouldn't and isn't too frightening on fuel. Stay post '97 and you'll get all the toys, especially on the v12
A bit expensive this one, but gives the idea...

Such a shame these, beautiful cars which are fantastic in the hands of somebody who can properly afford to run one.
The problem is most people who can properly afford to run one don't want an 11 year old one, and those who do want an 11 year old one cant afford to run them.
So they get bought, something huge breaks, and they get broken for parts.
Very sad.
