Right tonight the phone isnt working. I have noticed on the way home that the water company has just fitted a water meeter (thanks fkos) and tonight the phone isnt working.

BUT this is where it gets funny.

I have managed to get the net to work. BUT the phone doesn't so you now think its a phone fault.

BUT why would i lose my internet connection when i try and test to make calls on the house phone

I pinged google got a response, then made a call then BYE BYE net..

Sounds like the filter - try replacing that. Check that nobody's been messing about with the phone/router connections too. smile

Remove the filter and faceplate if you have one, and connect to the master test socket. If you have no dial tone, ring BT on 0800 800151 and report a line fault.

Report it to BT. We had the same issue. Apparently internet only uses one of the two wires and the other had become disconnected in the junction box down the road. Extremely quick response from BT - ours was fixed in 24 hours.

ADSL(broadband)can continue to work over some types of line fault that prevent the line from working and vice versa. The line is probably faulty, if you report it they will be able to test it remotely and confirm.
