Looked into a quattro a while ago - I view them as having the potential to rise very significantly in value over the next 10 years.
My investigations led me to understand that the spares situation is dire - many owners have a couple of spare cars in lock ups to canibalise to keep the good 'un running. Therefore I concluded that it was not a practical proposition

Why limit your choice to those two?
If I had 15k for a 'road weapon'....I would look at the E30 M3. It's amazing on the road, practical and the spare/after market parts are quite well catered for. I know top, low mileage ones go for £20-25k but you can certainly pick a well looked after one for around 15k.
Just thought I would give you another option.

Or a similar period 911

(no affiliation to that car, I'd just get a red one if I was getting a car of that period)

I think the scarcity and cost of parts for the Audi would put me off a bit. It would be the Cossie for me.
Edited to add..
I once came across an individual who had run an Eighties 911 Turbo and a quattro side by side for a few years. The 911 was way cheaper to maintain and service!

15k burning a hole in my pocket, I'd be looking for a E30 M3, that was solid but needed some tidying, or an Intergrale.....
Most Cossie's have been messed about with too much, or are starting to suffer from tin worm, and the Quattro's although lovely, are notoriously expensive to keep on the road
