Irish dude here.

There is not that many insignias over hear. Iv none people to go across the pond for cars ranging from a 96 Mondeo to a 09 c-max.

Could be legitimate. But the VRT here kills importing cars. The minimum VRT here is €540 ranging up to €20k for a Merc.

http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/make/

This is the most popular site for 2nd hand cars in Ireland.

I have flown to the UK on a number of occasions to look at cars before. I guess you always have to be careful though...

is it a diesel, vrt for many new diesels are very cheap so thats where he will be making a saving, vrt is 4500 euro for a 2008 diesel, about 20,000 for an opel insignia so if it's less than 15,500 euro (after conversion then it's worth his while

Thanks all for the replies, didn't realise there wasn't many Insignia's over there.

Would you mind explaining what VRT is, as I don't really understand the whole importing thing?

Tuborgman, yeah it is a diesel and I converted it, 12k GBP comes in at
14,700 Euro. So would he be making a good saving?
Go onto revenue.ie and go onto the ros vrt calculator to calculate how much vrt is.

It's a tax to pay to the govement to re-register the car on Irish plates.

Thats more to do with supply and demand than the VRT they pay in RoI. it's not such a big deal taking a car from mainland UK to Northern Ireland as it's still the same country.
