What car stuff to do in Detroit?
Discussion
You're several years too late, I'm afraid, unless you want to see a load of deserted houses & factories.
There was a good (albeit depressing) documentary on the decline and ruination of Detroit, post-Motor City, on the TV a couple of months back - see if you can track that down.

Haven't they got a drive by shooting experience day set up by now?
They are not that great. There can be a few restrictions on much you can be shot at and with what guns, its much better to spend a little more and get the full car-jacking at gunpoint + rape and murder of girlfriend package. Don't buy drugs off them either, they charge tourist prices when you can just nip down the road and get high quality gear for half the cost.

As might be expected, things are not as bad as the TV show made out. Plenty to see and do car-wise. Have a good time. There was a good (albeit depressing) documentary on the decline and ruination of Detroit, post-Motor City, on the TV a couple of months back - see if you can track that down.

aswell as motor city its also mo town! get to a jazz bar
eh?
I used to live in Detroit. Not lots to do there just the Henry Ford Museum and the factory tour mentioned already. I do remember visiting Tom Monaghan's car collection. He founded Dominos Pizza and collected cars (including one of the 6 Bugattis Royales!) but I have just looked to see if that is still there and it seems like Tom sold everything up and is using the money to help the Catholic church (to do what I have no idea and don't care).
Do bear in mind that the Henry Ford Museum also includes Greenfield Village which is a collection of buldings which he moved brick by brick and board by board to a large facility near the Dearborn HQ. That, and the car museum, could take two days to do! Worth going into the village as it has the first factory Ford built as well as Edison's laboratory which I always think is really cool.
Apart from that, I would strongly recommend a ball game. If the Tigers are in town then I always found that a fun afternoon. Don't be tempted by a fottball game, the Lions suck. Big time!
Also, you can tour the Henry and Eleanor Ford estate at Fairlane, Dearborn. It was their home and is a national landmark, now.
. . . and remember, if you are driving downtown at night then no one stops for red lights unless they absolutely have to (and the police turn a blind eye as it prevents car-jacking and shootings!)
Say "hi" to Detroit from me.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I've just woken up to read some of the replies, they made me chuckle, since we are staying in downtown!! Off to the ford museum now, the factory tour is closed on Sundays, and we leave tomorrow. Caught a Tigers game last night, was always on the cards as the wife loves baseball.
