Have you ever bought a car and after a few months realised you don't really get on with it and want to get rid of it?

Have you had any trouble selling it as it may look abit suspicious to new buyers why you have had it for such a short period of time?

50 mins

modified mr2 turbo. Bought it in Surrey, drove it back to Rickmansworth, on a drive out after a cuppa plumes of smoke poured out of the engine bay. Dumped it back on his driveway on a flatbed and explained my money was safer being back in my pocket. He agreed.

My dad bought a brand new Ford Mondeo in 00 in that millenium colour. He sold it 9months later and bought a 98 C250 Mercedes.

A month.

Bought a nice BRG MGF for my wife and I to take on honeymoon. Went for a walk one morning and looked through the showroom windows of the local second hand delers. Spotted a godl MGF a year younger with really low miles. Had a look round it, very smart and very clean.

Chatted to the dealer - who dropped the price a bit on asking.

Went home, got onto an MG forum I know, asked a couple of questions. Foudn out it was quite a rare model.

Drove the green F round to see if the guy would do a part Ex. He then offered me a gand more for the green car than I had just paid.

Deal done. I still have the gold F in the fleet. At 3 years and 1 month, its the car I have now owned longest.

A few months would be a long time to me.

Easiest way to explain is to say you took it in PX against your old car.

About a month ... I searched high and low for a mint 306 HDi in China Blue and managed to track a decent example down. Obviously I was absolutely chuffed with my purchase biggrin However about a month later a woman drove into the back of it at about 25-30mph whilst I was stationery ... It was written off a few days later frown

Still, very cloud has a silver lining ... I bought an Elise afterwards smile

Three days.

I bought a Metro when I was a student but felt sorry for my mate who had a license but no car so I let him drive it. He managed to kill the engine and all under 30mph too...

24 Hours, I bought a Golf GTi for a mate, after him going on about one for months, he then told me it wasn't what he was after and I was stuck £900 out of pocket and with a Golf I had no use for

Fortunately I managed to sell it to someone for a £50 loss the following day, and as a way of apology my mate took me out for an evening on the sauce............ At his expense. Nice

six weeks. Bought a new 2004 Touareg V8. Huge electrical problems and they could not solve a mysterious ground fault that made the car cut out. I made them take it back, and n=ended up at a 2005 car instead, plus loaners in the meantime. The 2005 was rock solid and superbly reliable, as it happened.

Currently 5 months... I want to get rid of the BMW within the next three weeks.

I'm just trying to find some thing 'interesting' which my insurer will cover me on before I'm 21... its not going well.

About 3 hours, which was the time taken to get it from the auction, show it to somebody I know, who then offered a very quick £500 profit smile

I bought a Ford Capri as my first car after passing my test. I didn't like it though and the alternator failed after four days. I sold it after two weeks.

Had a Porsche 924 for just under five months once. It was fun to drive in a blustery, Austin-Healey sort of a way, but it was quite badly made (dashboard was falling apart and various engine ancilliaries needed routinely bolting back on nearly every time I drove it), roly-poly handling, marginal brakes, painful driving position and a rather embarrassing image were the factors that caused me to jettison it, only coming to light gradually as I drove it.

About 6 hours. Someone came to me to buy my golf, with a knackered old golf estate in exchange. She left at 10am. I (got some day insurance), took it to the MOT station, it failed on a ball joint. I walked over to local parts suppliers, bought a bearing, fitted it in the car park and he passed it.

I went home, took a few photo's after a quick wash and polish and stuck it on ebay. 1 hour later a guy called saying he was round the corner visiting parents, came to look and left me a deposit. It was only worth £400 so not massive amounts of cash but a quick ownership to say the least.

My FiL once owned one for about 10 minutes. Drove a new (to him) Escort off the forecourt and someone rear-ended it at some t/lights, total write off within 10 mins. biggrin
