Mugen Goes Official In Blighty

Performance parts from Mugen to be sold through UK Honda dealers

Honda tuner Mugen is to sell a range of performance parts and styling kits through selected UK Honda dealers.

Eight dealers around the country have launched the Mugen Original Parts Programme, which involves a range of Mugen tuning parts, accessories and merchandise.

The programme launches with parts for the current FN2 Civic Type R, including forged aluminium wheels, performance brake pads, quick-shift kits and sports suspension. A selection of body styling kits for the Civic is also available.

Honda says that Mugen parts for other Honda models will be introduced over the next 12 months.

"We are delighted to be teaming up with some knowledgeable and enthusiastic Honda dealers who will bring Mugen products to a wider audience," says Colin Whittamore from Mugen Euro. "Although Mugen has been in Japan for over 35 years, we are a relatively new company to the UK market, and outside of motorsport and serious tuning enthusiasts, we may not yet be a household name.

"Through this programme we are looking forward to attracting new and existing customers to experience why Mugen has been renowned for many years as a world leader in motorsport."

Parts requiring fitment by Honda dealers are covered by a 12 month/10,000-mile warranty, and other accessories are covered by a standard manufacturing defects warranty.

The dealers involved in the programme are: Avonvale Honda (Midlands), Bristol Honda (South West), Inchcape Honda (South East), Brayley Honda (Home Counties), Two Mills Honda (North West), Phoenix Honda (Scotland & Borders), Ewens of Cornhill (Highlands), Donnelly & Taggart (Northern Ireland)

S'funny - wasn't the "Type R" philosophy supposed to be about racing-inspired components...like forged ally wheels, better brakes, stiffer suspension and quicker gear-linkages?!? rolleyesbanghead

That Honda feel there's a market for this sort of stuff shows how 'watered down' Type R's genuinely have become. Disappointing...

I don't think it makes any difference how hard core the manufacturers make there cars (Nissan GTR) there is always a market for making your car a little bit more individual, hurl

The manufacturers are also more tightly controlled on the basic specifications for the car i.e. noise, emissions etc that the tuners can take advantage of...

There is a market for this kind of stuff because they watered down the type R for the UK market. The JDM Civic Type R is a totally different car...

Mugen parts are hardly cheap as it is...

After a Main Stealer mark up I doubt anyone could afford them.

Is there a 'part' where you dump the electric motor gubbins, grearbox and clutch and whack in a mugen engine revving to 9000?

its a shame that none of the mugen parts are really going to do anything for the fn2 civic and other drivel on sale here in this country
For the amount of money to be made they should just ship a massive tanker of Civic FD2 and Integra DC5 from Japan and watch honda sales go through the roof!
