Will a Golf VR6 ever be a classic?

I have one, a late, totally standard car with a cracking history file, 3 door in Silver with the very rare optional Recaro interior, I am faced with two choices, tidy it up (few minor rust blisters) and keep it, or sell it on once it's MOTd as it is at present.
I know the mk3 wasn't VW finest hour but the VR6 was different, I'm starting to see original mk2 16vs appreciate in value and wondered whether the VR6 will do the same, especially in a rare colour with the Recaros.

No, probably not. Simply because that engine (more or less) has been fitted into the 3, 4(V6 and R32),5(R32) and presumably Mk6 R32 in due course if they sell one. Plus it's gone into a few Passats as well. And of course over the years it's been improved. So there's nothing desireable about the Mk3 variant IMO
The late Corrado Storms stand a better chance but even then it's marginal.

Re: The Golf. I reckon they'll hit rock bottom for a while but they'll have their day again. The OP's sounds like a nice one. I'd keep it in good nick personally.

^ This.Good god there are owners clubs for everything from Marinas to Granadas so a cooking Golf is going to become a classic but it won't appreciate for probably another 10 years or so (and will depreciate until then)

Anyway, I hanker after a 328 now....I think the issue for the VR6 is how it benchmarked as a drivers car.
The e36 was more raw than the e46 that went after it and some will say more rewarding because of that.
The Mk3 Golf was way off the magic of the Mk2 before it. And then VW found it's form again with the Mk5. So the Mk3 is a bit of a low-point in the middle IMO.

Im currently weighing up getting a Corrado VR6 or a E36 328 Sport.
I dont no if they will be a classic but i wouldn't mind if the did i think my one is very tidy, and they make a good daily driver apart from fuel consumption:
Also if your one is a late model (no plastic over the arches amongst other diffrences) it will be an OBD2 engine which is the better more desirable and more powerfull engine despite them coming from the factory with the same quoted power.

The Mk6 'R' uses a 2 litre petrol engine; there won't be another V6 in a Golf again. I don't think the Mk3 will ever be worth much to be honest, if you want to invest in anything, the Mk4 R32 would be the one to get - limited edition run and will definitely apreciate over time. Shame the Mk5 R32 was sold in greater numbers, as it won't be as sought after as the Mk4.

+1. The Corrado's are more sought after with the same engine. The Mk2 16v's were always liked and as less of them are around they have appreciated, but essentially the Mk3 was an unloved beast and bloated. You could have a factory mint one but it will never command good money if that's your reason for keeping it.I'm struggling to see redeeming features......its never going to be a classic in the true sense of the word.
