Can anyone shed some light on models or vx220 and elise?
Discussion
I'm going to do some research on whatcar/wiki etc etc, but can anyone give me some pointers on model variations?
I'm not talking little changes I mean really really basic stuff.
E.g. Am I right in thinking there is an S1 and an S2 elise? And then winthin that various models?
The VX comes in 2.2 NA and a turbo? Is the 2.2 a base model or is turbo the a smaller engine? Best buy is the turbo?

The VX220 came in 2.2 N/A (145bhp) 2.0 turbo (200bhp) and 2.0 turbo VXR (220bhp).
The Elise has had two models, the S1 (with round headlights) and S2 (with pointy headlights). S1s were all K-series in various states of tune, the S2 started out as K-series and then went to Toyota engines, with a few years while both were being produced (2003-2005, I think).
You can find a list of Elise variants at http://www.elises.co.uk/models/index.php

2000 to 2003 VX220 2.2 na 870kg
2003 to 2004 VX220 Turbo 930kg
If you go on the VX220 forums you'll see that across the board, turbo and n/a owners one things ageed, the best VX220 is an n/a with a Supercharger conversion. The charger conversions are very common as charger, manifold etc is from an American GM car (Cobolt SS) so bolts straight on the engine. Buying an n/a and then dropping it off at Courtneys for a turn key charger conversion will cost approximately the same as going and buying a turbo. Difference is you'll now have 250bhp, a linear power delivery and about 50kg less weight so its quie an appealing option if you find modifications acceptable - with a Elise platform car I'd be suprised if any are left stock for long.
I always intended to get mine converted but have not done so yet as its my daily driver and I think its fast enough on road. Also good fun on track. Talking of track, on track dragging down a straight against 2 Elise owners at the last trackday having discussed the performance of the cars, unsuprisingly the 2.2 falls directly between the toyota 190bhp S2 Elise R and the toyota 135bhp S2 Elise S, being closer to the R than the S.
S2 135bhp Elise S 860kg
S2 190bhp Elise R ??
S2 218bhp Elise SC 900kg
VXs' are obviously cheaper than equivalent age Elises, really this is down to badge snobbery as they are essentially the same car < most of my parts shopping is via Eliseparts for my VX.
