Black or grey paint? Leather or alcantara seats? Audi A6
Discussion
Just about to push the button on an Audi A6 Avant. Need to choose colours.
Lots of people say they'd never choose another black car, but there's no doubt that black ones look fantastic. I don't mind dirt and I'm not precious about having a spotless car, but I *hate* swirl marks. So this is the pearl black:

Grey seems like the bland choice. Lots of A6s are grey. The darker greys do look good though. As good as black? This Daytona pearl would presumably be much easier to keep looking special:

Although I want to be happy with the colour myself, I've got to keep resale value in my mind for the end of the PCP. What's the PistonHeads opinion on colour choice?
And so.... interior on the S-Line models can be full leather or leather with alcantara seat facings. What's the market preference? I suppose that alcantara looks 'sporty' but is it as hard-wearing or popular as full leather?
Answers on a postcard please...

Another vote for the grey. Big black estate cars just remind me of a hearse tbh. I did see a really gorgeous A6 estate in a metallic red the other day though. That would probably be my choice and to hell with residual values - if you like a particular colour, just get it. The likely additional loss caused by choosing one metallic colour over another is probably insignificant given the value will halve anyway.
Re. the seats, I've got half leather/ half alcantara in my car which has now covered 88,000 miles and the seats still look good after trimming the bobbles off with a shaver. They are also less slidey when pressing on compared to leather and they don't get as hot in summer.

Depends how long you are keeping it. To be honest if you are buying new then a few extra £££ loss from colour choice is going to be a tiny percentage of the total loss in a 3 year period. Buy the colour you like, you have to live with it. Besides which there will always be someone looking for a used one that isn't grey/silver/black so it's probably outweighed by being rare-ish, although that won't stop a dealer using it as an excuse then sticking it on the forecourt for the same price as the rest.
The A4's look great in red or that nice bright blue if it's an option.

Thanks for the opinions. It's all useful.
On a PCP plan like this we could potentially profit by selling the car privately at the end of 3 years instead of handing it back to Audi. If we choose wisely at this stage then we'll get a better sale price and pocket a greater margin to use as deposit on the repeat deal. Even if it's just a couple of hundred quid or an easier sale then it's worth it, especially if we're happy about either of these two choices.
Some cars look good with bright colours, but the A6 looks better/classier in understated shades IMHO. Apart from the several silvers/greys, most colours in the catalogue are colour tints of black.
Incidentally, the deal is pretty much unbelievable:
£6k deposit
36 months @ £350 (!)
170 hp TDI. Sat-nav, heated leather, parking sensors, xenons, 19" alloys, bluetooth, etc.
Overall this will cost us only £2.5k more per year than running our '99 A6, when we take into account improved fuel economy and the £££ repairs that our old car seems to need at each service/MOT. Plus we get to drive a brand new car for the first time. What's not to like!

I'm on my second black car now after swearing blind I'd never have another. But it looked so good in the showroom
which we'd never get back at resale.
