Saw this in my local supermarket car park last night. Not seen one before but as it turns out it's a genuine VW product with seemingly proper off road undercarriage. As I stood there, basking in the pointlessness of the thing, I wondered what other ridiculous tat has been turned out over the years by manufacturers?

If it really is 4x4 then it's probably a fair bit more capable of getting up a rough track orn driving through snow than a regular mk 2 Golf...

Not nearly as pointless as the Polo Dune I saw the other day. Or any of the 2wd mini SUV's (Qashqai anyone?)

its basically a golf synchro with better engines and higher suspension.

Probably, but I hate to think what it handles like on the road. Scary is my guess.

There was a very similar thread running last year. If only I was good at the internet enough to work the search function, I could find it for you.

Same for me. I tried and failed with the search function, hence this one.

Yup, it really is. I must have suppressed that monstrosity from my memory. I worked on that car, back in the day. Rear compartment designed for blokes with Turbans apparently. Fortunately restricted to the Indian subcontinent.

I love how you've bothered to mask the number plate just in case anyone reading this happens to have a stolen ultra-rare black jacked up 4WD Golf that they desperately need to clone. On German plates. In Britain. rofl
