McLaren Announces Dealers For MP4-12C

Three Brit dealers join 35-strong global network

McLaren Automotive has announced the three lucky retailers that will sell the company's new MP4-12C.

The three companies, Rybrook Holdings Ltd, Jardine Motors Group and Sytner Group, will trade under the names McLaren Birmingham, McLaren London and McLaren Manchester respectively.

The UK, along with the USA, is expected to be McLaren's biggest market.

Initial interest in McLaren's carbon fibre, F1-inspired MP4-12C already exceeds the first year's allocation.

A full model range of the two-seat, mid-engined sports cars will be completed by the middle of the decade.

Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive's managing director, said: "I am thrilled to announce the relationship between McLaren Automotive and its UK representatives - three of the best car retail businesses in the world.

"We now have the ideal partners in the UK who have enormous experience in delivering extraordinary customer service to help us deliver on those expectations."

The UK retailers will join a global network of 35 dealers in 2011, which will be responsible for selling a planned production volume of 1000 12Cs.

Fans can get a first glimpse of the car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 1-4 July.

But don't worry, you won't need to get there early, because all the queues will be for what promises to be the highlight of the entire weekend - the PistonHeads stand... (Not sure that's quite right - Ed)

Sad thing is I have heard nothing from the day i asked to go on the list, surprise surprise I see Sytner get another super car to sell, pity some small select delaers don't get a chance.

Not sure they have really been very helpful taking so long making thier mind up, I think the MD meant to say "three of the biggest Car delaers in the world who they did not want to upset"

Sytner may need to build a special garage and their staff may well need to go on a manners and dress course if they hope to sell any cars...full stop.

Given that the Lambo and Ferrari garages are within a 5 minute walk of each other, and the Porsche & Bugatti / Bentley / Rolls showrooms are within 30 seconds of each other, with a garage that frequently has some very tasty cars in on Park Lane (currently a Zonda), i would have thought that they will have to find somewhere near to either of the above hotspots to be competitive. Your average buyer isn't going to go to WGC to see it!

McL say that they will build 1000 cars in year 1. I am just not sure how many they will be able to sell. We still have a recession out there and given that Aston Martin halved their production to 3000 cars last year ramping up to 4000 cars this year I find it quite optimistic to be plan 1000 cars at 160k in the first year. Lets hope they are right. I have my doubts.

The postal address for the B'ham dealer is Warwick and for Manchester, in Knutsford.
So, don't be fooled until you know where the showroom addresses are.
Which won't be the workshops, I'll be bound.

and

1000 cars, 20 cars a week, 4 a day is a bit of challenge to find homes for in the first year.

hehe One of their salesman once did a mini burnout in the dealership car park when I asked if the traction control could be switched off. I'd never heard a rev limiter on a cold engine before... They also witheld the fact that my car was a euro import until about 2 milliseconds before my pen hit the paper to sign for the car. What a fine sales experience that was.

I saw the black one (prototype 13?) and the Orange car on the M3 3 weeks ago. Cruised up behind the black one,(which looked superb) and had a good nose in through the window. Also had a white 458 in my road last week (with Swiss number plates). 458 sounded suberb, but the Macca looked meaner clap

Interesting to see that they've neglected to choose a dealer in Scotland. Aberdeenshire is arguably one of the larger markets for this type of car and the Edinbugh and Glasgow regions aren't that far behind. The Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin brands are a daily spot here, i'll wager that a higher than average number of McLaren's per head of capita end up here in the 'shire. I think they could be missing a trick not havng Scottish representation. Presume the service network will also be handled by the dealers too?

"Central London" so should be OK. I'd never heard of Jardine Matheson before. Seems they are reasonable players.

Regarding sightings. A former colleague of mine. Recently had one sitting on his drive way! So he either nicked it without them knowing, they are getting blase about them or it's a concerted "guerilla" marketting to try and deflect the 458 Italia's recent launch.

Replace "daily" with "every minute" and you've got my commute here in London. Unless you mean each brand separately, in which case Porsche and Aston every two minutes, Ferrari every ten, Lambo every twenty, more or less.
